Endorsement of Congressman Stephen F. Lynch

You may not have heard about it, but there is in fact a primary challenge for Congressman Stephen F. Lynch (D-South Boston) this Tuesday. So we would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly endorse Stephen F. Lynch in his bid for a fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Lynch has a common-sense mentality that's served him well in Washington, DC. His ability to work with Democrats and Republicans has enabled him to make significant progress on critical issues, and to provide much-needed assistance to the communities of the Ninth Congressional District. He's been a leader on the overlooked issue of rail security, and this year he successfully secured an additional $50 million to address the problem. Lynch led the fight to keep the 4 VA Hospitals in Greater Boston open, and he's been a consistent advocate for improving veterans health care.

Congressman Lynch has made our service men and women on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan his foremost priority, traveling to the region five times in the last three years, and working to address shortages in body armor, vehicle armor and safety equipment. Lynch recently authored The Iraq Transition Act, a reasonable plan to handover control of basic government functions to the Iraqi government, enabling us to begin withdrawal of our troops.

Congressman Lynch is a strong supporter of substance abuse prevention programs, and he was one of the driving forces in the creation of the Cushing House for boys, and last year, the Cushing House for girls, securing more than half a million dollars in federal aid for the residential facility.

With his reputation for hard work and his focus on constituent services, Stephen F. Lynch has proved himself a worthy successor to late Congressman Joe Moakley.
